Colours of Malaysia Lantern Bicycle Night 12-09-2010

CYCLING enthusiasts can look forward to a different experience during the Lantern Bicycle Night Ride to be held in conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Themed ‘Colours of Malaysia’, the event, which is organised for the second year by the Penang Cycling Lifestyle Society with the support from the state government, will take place on Sept 12 at the New World Park in George Town.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Lydia Ong Kok Fooi said the event was aimed at bringing families and friends of different races together to enjoy a lantern parade of bicycles and the tradition of eating moon cakes.

“Other than the ride, there will also be a lantern bicycle decoration competition as well.

“Participants are required to decorate their bicycles using any type of material according to our theme,” she said.

“The winners will be picked based on their entries’ relevance to the theme, creativity, originality and overall presentation of the bicycles,” she said in a press statement on Thursday.

She added that for those interested in joining the ride in a more leisurely manner, limited trishaws would be available for rent at a nominal fee.

The ride is scheduled to be flagged off from New World Park at 8pm on that day.

Ong, state Local Government and Traffic Management Committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow and Tanjung Bungah assemblyman Teh Yee Cheu are expected to be present.

The one-hour ride will cover Penang Road, Farquhar Street, the Esplanade, Beach Street and Chulia Street before heading back to New World Park.

2010 Campaign for a Lane 17-10-2010

GClub's grand event of the year is ON ! There will be two categories of rides:-

(A) Fun rides (T-shirt provided)
- 20 Km ride, from Esplanade to EO housing project via Kelawai Road.

- Grade 1 ride: Easy

- Registration: Assemble Esplanade 7.30 am; Flag off- 8 am, 17/10/10

- Venue : Esplanade (Padang Kota) Penang

- Registration fee: RM 20

20 Km from Esplanade via Jln Kelawai passing through kelawai - Gottlieb road traffic light, then along Jln Tanjong Tokong before looping into EO housing project at the Island Plaza and turning around jln Tg Tokong again and passed along Gurney drive round about and gurney drive and finally back to Esplanade.

(B) Round island rides (Jersey provided)

- 80 Km ride, from Esplanade and going around the island via Pulau Betong.

- Grade 4: Moderate to Challenging

- Assemble Esplanade 6.30 am, Flag off - 7 am, 17/10/10

- Venue: Esplanade (Padang Kota) Penang

- Registration fee: RM 50

The round island route will be longer than last year route as we will be looping around Pulau Betong, a distance of about 80 Km.

Please make sure you gather with the right group. Check your fellow riders riding number color. If it is the wrong color, one of you is in the wrong group. You may ended doing 80 Km round island instead of 20 Km fun ride!!!

Participants please take note of the timing and gather at your respectively holding pen according to your riding number color. We will start on time. If you are late, it may be a lonely ride.

ROUND ISLAND RIDES: GATHER IN FRONT OF TOWNHALL Esplanade,Penang 6.30 AM. THE RIDING NUMBER WILL BE IN BLACK AS BELOW. PRE RIDE BRIEFING AT 6.45 AM. FLAG OFF AT 7.00 AM ACCOMPANIED BY CIMB DRUMMERS AND LION DANCE. (One water station at Sungai Rusa with bananas - pending availability)

FUN RIDES: GATHER IN FRONT OF TOWNHALL Esplanade,Penang 7.00 AM. RIDING NUMBER WILL BE IN GREEN. PRE RIDE BRIEFING AT 7.45 AM. FLAG OFF AT 8 AM ACCOMPANIED BY CIMB DRUMMERS AND LION DANCE.

** If you have yet to obtain your official receipt, kindly visit your respective bicycle shop to get it. The official receipt is very important since it will be required for you to collect your T-shirt, food voucher and riding number (you can obtain it online now). Night Cycling through Heritage Site

Right after Heritage “Treashaw” Hunt – We have Night Cycling through Heritage Site! HOORAY for BaikBike! It is our favorite cycling time, just to mention.

“Night Cycling through Heritage Site” is an official event of the Georgetown Festival 2010, organized by Penang Cycling Lifestyle Society, in conjunction with the 2nd anniversary celebration of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Listing of Georgetown.

Penang Cycling Lifestyle Society, as the name suggests, is an association formed by avid cyclists who believe in community cycling and cycling for the planet green.

They are an experienced group of cycling organizers and have organized many cycling activities in Penang, revolving around the theme of green, animals’ welfare, youth and many more. All for a cause.

Besides the deep green factor, we L.O.V.E. this because it lays perfect emphasis on 2 utmost important objectives, tailor made for Georgetown Festival 2010: First, the appreciation of Georgetown Heritage & promotes Community Cycling!

Scheduled at 8pm on 31st July 2010 the event kick starts and ends at City Hall (Esplanade) Penang. For this activity, the cycling route is definitely Georgetown’s core heritage row, in total of 4.6km.
